About Tskaltubo

Tskaltubo is a spa town in the Imereti region, about 20 minutes by car from Kutaisi. Since the Soviet era it has been known for its mildly radioactive (radon) thermal springs, used in balneotherapy, and its historic bathhouses are still open to visitors.

The town has a large central park and many grand sanatorium buildings from the 1950s; some are restored, while the abandoned ones have become a favourite subject for photographers.

Two of western Georgia's main sights are close by: Prometheus Cave, a show cave with a lit walking route and an underground boat ride, and Sataplia Nature Reserve with its dinosaur footprints and glass viewing platform. Kutaisi International Airport is a short drive away, which makes Tskaltubo an easy first or last night in Georgia.
