Nikortsminda

Nikortsminda is a picturesque village located on the northern slopes of the Racha part of the Caucasus Mountains, at an altitude of 1,180 meters above sea level. It's situated 16 kilometers from the region's municipal center of Ambrolauri, near the Shaori Reservoir.

The village is surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery, with beautiful forests, fascinating trails, and stunning mountain peaks. Visitors can explore the area's unique landscape, which includes caves, rocks, and underground rivers.

Nikortsminda Cathedral

The village is home to the historic Nikortsminda Cathedral, a masterpiece of national architecture built in 1010-1014. The cathedral has preserved its original appearance, including its dome, and is a significant cultural and historical landmark in the region.

In the Middle Ages, Nikortsminda Cathedral was an important episcopal center, and it houses many valuable manuscripts, pieces, and objects. The church was rehabilitated in 2012, revealing previously unknown frescoes.
