Ghebi village is nestled in the alpine zone, at the junction of Racha and Svaneti Regions, 35 km from Oni town. The village is situated 1,350 meters above sea level and is split in half by the Rioni river, with a natural wall of mountains surrounding it. This unique location creates a variety of colors throughout the year, making Ghebi stunning year-round.

Ghebi is home to 11 dazzling lakes, which appear one after the other, creating a breathtaking landscape. The Rioni river, which splits the village in half, adds to the natural beauty of the area.
History and Legend
The people of Ghebi were known for their love of freedom and their determination to be free from feudal rule. According to legend, the Ghebi people bribed the main official of the local feudal lords, the Areshidze family, and killed two of the Areshidze brothers. The third brother was thwarted by a clever woman named Doduki, who asked for his help to cross the river and then pushed him into the water.
To this day, the Ghebi people honor Doduki's memory by bringing food to church, including two flatbreads, one for a deceased relative and one for Doduki.
Things to See
Ghebi is home to a number of historic buildings, including medieval towers and Christian churches from the 10th-11th centuries. The medieval architecture of Svaneti is characterized by two and four-story towers, which had residential, combat, and defense functions. One such tower, dedicated to the Mother of God, has survived to this day.
