Asureti Village

Asureti Village is a hidden gem in the Georgian countryside, with a rich history dating back to 1818 when German colonists settled in the area. The village was originally an ancient Georgian settlement, but it was abandoned after constant invasions. The German colonists, under the initiative of Russian Emperor Alexander I, built a new village from the ruins and named it Elisabethal, or Elizabeth's Valley.

History and Culture

The German colonists in Asureti focused on agriculture and animal husbandry, which led to the village's rapid growth and development. They also planted vineyards near the village and built a German-style cellar to produce wine. The rare grape variety, Asuretuli Shala, is still associated with the village and is highly appreciated for its unique taste and aroma.

The village's architecture is characterized by identical houses built of white stone and clay without nails, as well as a Lutheran church built in 1871 in a Gothic style. The German cemetery in the village is also a notable landmark, with tombstones bearing the surnames of the settlers and their descendants from different parts of Germany.
