Zekari is a mountain pass in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, offering stunning natural scenery and a historic caravan route. It's also home to the Zekari balneological resort, known for its healing sulfur springs.
Located in the south of Imereti, in the gorge of the Khanistskali River, Zekari Pass connects the Imereti and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions of Georgia. The pass is 2,182 meters above sea level and is part of the small ridge of Meskheti in the Caucasus.
Nature
The area around Zekari Pass is mostly mountainous and covered with forests of oak, walnut, chestnut, spruce, ash tree, and other valuable species. The pass is surrounded by mountains, forests, meadows, and hills of the small Caucasus, making it a peaceful and serene destination.
Things to See
The Zekari balneological resort is located near the pass, in the same valley as the Kershaveti river. The resort is known for its sulfur waters, which are used to treat rheumatic and neurological diseases.
How to Get There
The pass starts from Baghdati Municipality, south of Imereti, and ends in Adigeni Municipality of Samtskhe-Javakheti after 24 kilometers. The road has been used for caravan traffic since ancient times, making it a historic and scenic route.
