Poti

Poti, unlike many other Georgian cities, was intentionally developed as a port city. Its foundation and development were influenced by notable figures such as Niko Nikoladze and German architect Edmund Frick, who aimed to create a city with European flair, mirroring the boulevards of Paris.

Things to See

The city boasts a unique architectural style, exemplified by the Resurrection of the Savior Cathedral, built in the Byzantine style as a miniature version of the Hagia Sophia. A statue of Alexandre Dumas is also located in the park where the cathedral stands, commemorating his visit to Poti.

The Poti Lighthouse, built by the British company Easton Amos and Son in 1864, is another notable landmark. Locals believe the lighthouse was saved from destruction during World War II due to the vigilance of its overseer.

Nature and Activities

From May to October, Poti transforms into a popular seaside resort, with shallow and warm Black Sea waters making it ideal for families. The city also offers various water sports such as water skiing, jet skiing, and sailing.

For nature lovers, the nearby Lake Paliastomi, located within Kolkheti National Park, is a must-visit destination. The lake is perfect for boating and fishing, although a permit is required for the latter. It's also a haven for birdwatchers, with numerous bird species migrating through the area in spring and autumn.

Poti is a great destination for foodies, with local specialties such as Megrelian Chashushuli, Kupati, and Elarji being particularly popular among tourists.
