History of Khobi
The history of Khobi dates back to the Bronze Age, with archaeological findings from the Chikhu Plateau revealing remnants from the 12th century BCE. The Khobi Monastery, built to commemorate King Gubaz, is a significant monument from the 13th-14th centuries.
In the 19th century, the Redoubt-Kali port operated near the village of Kulevi, supplying European goods to Transcaucasia. Although the port ceased operations, the area remains significant, with an international pipeline now running through Kulevi.
Sights of Khobi
The Khobi Monastery, located in the village of Nojikhevi, is a culturally and religiously significant site. It has preserved various important items, some of which are now housed in the Dadiani Palace museum in Zugdidi.
Archaeological excavations have uncovered several notable findings, including a ruined Colchic dwelling from the 9th century BC in Kulevi, and evidence of silk production in Chaladidi. A Georgian folk song museum, opened in 2007, also operates in Khobi.
