Gardabani

Gardabani is a city located 39 kilometers from Tbilisi, in the Kvemo Kartli Region. The area is characterized by its diverse natural features, including the Sanishno and Udo peaks, several rivers, lakes, and a colorful desert.

History of Gardabani

The city's name is derived from the Georgian ethnarch Kartlos' son Gardabos, according to the 'Georgian Chronicles'. The area's development began in the 2nd century, and it became an important place for defense during the reign of King Vakhtang Gorgasali.

Gardabani was fully destroyed in the 13th century, but it was later revived in the 19th century with the settlement of German people and the establishment of the Baku-Tbilisi-Poti railway. The city's factories and settlements continued to develop in the 20th century, alongside the construction of the city of Rustavi.

Gardabani is home to several historical and cultural sites, including the Saint George Shavnabada Monastery, Kumisi Nunnery, Martkopi Monastery, and various churches such as Archangel, Satskhenisi, and Norio.

The city is also surrounded by natural attractions, including Gardabani National Park, Mravaltskaro Reservoir, Jandari Lake, and Kumisi Lake, which are ideal for picnics, nature walks, bird-watching, and fishing.
