Dedoplistskaro

Dedoplistskaro is situated on the Shiraki Plain, approximately 144 kilometers from Tbilisi and 73 kilometers from Telavi. The area has a long history, with signs of human life dating back to the Stone Age.

History

The region's society developed significantly during the Bronze and Iron Ages, as well as the antique and early Christian periods. This is evident from the ancient settlement ruins of Nazarli, Karsiskalli, and Didi Shiraki Valley, and the medieval settlements of Khornabuji and Khoranti.

The name 'Dedoplistskaro' has been in use since the 12th century, when a military post was established in the area. According to legend, the army of Queen Tamar discovered a spring here, which still flows today.

Things to See

Dedoplistskaro is home to several notable landmarks, including Ozaani Amaghleba Church, Machkhaani Archangel Church, and Elia Monastery. The local museum is also worth visiting, with its collection of historic documents, jewelry, clay and bronze items, and cult sculptures.

The area's unique semi-desert landscape is characterized by a diverse range of flora and fauna. The Vashlovani Nature Reserve is a must-visit, featuring three natural monuments: Artsivi (Eagle) Gorge, Takhti Tepa mud volcanoes, and the Alazani swamp forest of Kakliskuri.

Nature Reserves

The Chachuna Managed Reserve is another interesting and exotic destination, with its sandy dunes, sandstones, clays, layers of volcanic ash, and boulders. The reserve is also a great spot for birdwatching, and offers stunning views of the blue Dali reservoir.
