Juta

Juta is a village located at the southern foot of the main Caucasus Mountain Range, about half an hour's drive from Stepantsminda. The village is situated at an altitude of 2,200 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest mountainous locations in the region.

Things to See

The Chiukhi Mountains, also known as the Chaukhi Massif, are the main draw for visitors to Juta. The mountains rise to heights of 3,400 to 3,900 meters, with the Chiukhi Pass reaching 3,338 meters. The view of the Chiukhi Mountains from Juta in the morning is breathtaking, with the crisp, clean air magnifying every detail on these snow-clad mountains.

Nature and Outdoor Activities

Juta offers several hiking trails, including the popular trail that starts at the center of the village and goes up to Juta Lake, located at the foothills of the Chiukhi Massif. The trail is approximately 4 km long and takes about 1.5 hours to complete. For a more challenging hike, visitors can continue from the lake to the Chiukhi Pass, which offers stunning views of the Abudelauri Lakes and the Khevsureti Region.

Visitors can also rent a horse in the village and explore the surrounding countryside on horseback. For those interested in cultural events, the Khevsureti shrine festival Atengenoba is celebrated in the last week of June, featuring ancient rituals and traditional performances.

Local Cuisine

Juta's hotels, restaurants, and cafes offer a range of traditional local dishes, including mokheuri khinkali, khortsshibuiani, tsertkhala, mkhlovani, machkati, and kus erbo. Visitors can also sample local teas, such as azalea tea, and enjoy the local hospitality.
